The need for services aimed at helping disabled kids and their families continues to grow. According to the International Center for Disability, there are over 2.5 million children in California alone between the ages of five and fifteen years old with sensory, physical, mental, and/or self-care disabilities. Moreover, the Census Bureau on Disabilities approximates that several thousand children a year are added to these numbers. Unquestionably, these children deserve the opportunity to lead healthier, happier lives.

Our equine therapy services are geared toward disabled children in those age groups, although we may assist older individuals should the situation demand and warrant our involvement.  Their disabilities may include sensory, mental, cognitive, emotional and/or physical issues. They have varied economic backgrounds and although most come from the greater Northern California area, it's our desire that we can serve and assist those from all over the country.

Why use equine therapy?

Equine therapy has been shown to have many positive benefits when correctly taught by certified therapists. Some of them include:
  • Confidence
  • Self-Efficacy
  • Self-Concept
  • Communication
  • Trust
  • Perspective
  • Decreased Isolation
  • Self-Acceptance
  • Impulse Control
  • Social Skills
  • Boundaries
  • Spiritual Connection
Equine Therapy usually includes instruction in horse care, grooming procedures, saddlery, and basic equitation. Safety is our number one priority for all participants in equine therapy. All participants in the program wear helmets and other protective gear during a therapeutic session, and depending upon their disability and their experience, we also have horse leads and side support people.
